Job Summary

This Principal IT Infrastructure Engineer role, based in Freiburg im Breisgau, involves the maintenance, optimization, and continuous development of critical, central IT infrastructure components, including network, server, storage, virtualization, backup, and cloud systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing and resolving complex incidents, planning and executing major infrastructure projects like migrations and upgrades, and driving system automation using scripting tools. A key focus is on creating detailed technical concepts, operating manuals, and architecture documentation, while also supporting security and compliance efforts (e.g., patch management and monitoring). The ideal candidate holds a degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification, possesses at least five years of enterprise-level IT infrastructure experience, and demonstrates deep expertise across server administration, network design, virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP). This position offers a flexible working model (80-100%) and requires fluent German and intermediate English skills.
