Job Summary

This role is for a hands-on Research Scientist specializing in membrane proteins, biophysics, and automated purification workflows, working at the intersection of biochemistry and high-throughput process development. The core responsibility involves developing, running, and optimizing purification and polishing workflows for challenging membrane proteins (receptors, ion channels, transporters) using both classical chromatography and robot-assisted setups. The scientist will design systematic purification and formulation screens, leverage automation platforms to increase throughput and reproducibility, and perform in-depth biophysical characterization using techniques like SEC, SDS-PAGE, MST, and GCI. Success is measured by the quality, stability, and characterization of the protein samples provided to structural teams (cryo-EM, X-ray). This position is ideal for a curious, determined professional who enjoys questioning dogma and building smarter workflows in a specialized biotech environment.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field

Experience

  • Robust, hands-on experience in protein purification, ideally with membrane proteins or other challenging targets
  • Professional experience in biophysical data analysis (SEC traces, binding curves, sensorgrams)
  • Experience with MST and/or GCI is a strong advantage
  • Solid experience with other quantitative binding/interaction methods
