Job Summary
This PhD position at the INM - Leibniz Institute for New Materials focuses on developing magnetically controlled Engineered Living Materials (ELMs) for biomedical applications, specifically targeted drug delivery in the bladder. The role involves synthesizing and characterizing superparamagnetic and ferromagnetic nanoparticles, modifying their surfaces for biological compatibility, and optimizing their magnetothermal properties. The successful candidate will also create a magnetic heating setup, integrate particles into composite materials for remote thermal actuation, and collaborate with clinical and industrial partners on in vitro testing and translational research. This interdisciplinary project offers hands-on experience in advanced material design, bacterial engineering, and translational research, culminating in scientific publications and presentations.
Required Skills
Education
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field
Experience
- Experience in colloidal synthesis, surface modification, or magnetic materials is an advantage
- Interest in interdisciplinary work at the interface of materials science and biomedical applications
