Job Summary

This critical role involves leading the Data Development Pool within the interdisciplinary Societal Observatory Using Novel Data Sources (SOUNDS) project at Saarland University. The Team Lead is responsible for the strategic setup, ongoing development, and operational management of a central Data Engineering team, consisting of at least three specialized engineers. Key responsibilities include planning and prioritizing tasks, representing the team in interdisciplinary meetings, and ensuring compliance with ethical and legal data protection standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with scientists from various disciplines to understand requirements and implement technical solutions, focusing strategically on designing and analyzing holistic data architectures, pipelines, and interfaces. This position requires strong technical expertise in Data Engineering and modern data architectures (e.g., Data Lakes, Streaming Technologies) combined with proven leadership experience to establish efficient data structures for cutting-edge societal research.

Required Skills

Education

Completed Master's or Diploma degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Social Science, or comparable qualification. Ph.D. is optional.

Experience

  • Experience in project or team leadership
  • Several years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Big Data, or Cloud Architectures
  • Several years of professional experience processing large, heterogeneous data volumes
  • Professional experience in Software Development (alternative requirement)

  • Temporary contract duration (until July 15, 2032, with option for extension). If a foreign university degree was obtained, proof of equivalence with a German degree (ZAB certification) is required prior to hiring.
