Job Summary

This role seeks an experienced Data Scientist to join the Data Analytics Team at HUK-COBURG, one of Germany’s leading insurers, focusing on Quantitative Risk Management and Asset Liability Management (ALM). The core responsibility involves applying advanced Data Science and AI methodologies to real-world capital investment risk management challenges. Day-to-day tasks include the development, implementation, and continuous optimization of quantitative models for ALM and strategic Asset Allocation, requiring the assumption of technical ownership. You will actively build new processes within the Asset Management division, enabling data-based trading decisions, and collaborate within an agile, interdisciplinary team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers. Key qualifications include an advanced degree (Master or PhD preferred) in a quantitative field like Data Science, Mathematics, or Economics, coupled with several years of experience applying optimization models, ideally within asset or risk management contexts. Strong programming proficiency in Python, alongside deep theoretical and practical knowledge of statistics, optimization, and modern Machine Learning methods, is essential for success in this impactful role.

Required Skills

Education

Completed Master's Degree (or Diploma) in Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Computer Science, or a comparable field. PhD is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Several years of experience applying Data Science methods and mathematical optimization models to economic issues
  • Professional experience in Asset Management or Risk Management (ideal)
  • Experience in developing and optimizing quantitative models for Asset Liability Management
  • Experience in taking technical ownership for projects and results
