Job Summary
This senior leadership role, Head of Division 72A, based in Nuremberg, involves spearheading fundamental policy issues related to residency law, skilled worker immigration, and EU mobility. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptual design, coordination, and leadership of the unit, including the management and technical supervision of all staff. Key responsibilities include setting work goals, monitoring target achievement, ensuring smooth procedural flows, and handling complex fundamental legal inquiries, especially concerning residency law on national and international levels. The role requires collaboration and coordination with the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and other ministries/authorities on migration-related issues. This position is attractive due to its high level of responsibility in a critical government function, offering an unlimited contract and requiring a background in public administration and legal expertise.
Required Skills
Education
First and Second State Examinations in Law (Rechtswissenschaften) with a minimum combined score of 13.0 points
Experience
- Professional experience in a federal, state, or municipal administration at the higher service level (A13h to A15 or comparable tariff employees)
- Knowledge of Residency Law (Aufenthaltsrecht)
- Practical experience working at a Foreigners' Authority (Ausländerbehörde) or another authority involved in enforcing Residency Law is desirable
- Knowledge of the Central Register of Foreigners (Ausländerzentralregister) and related legal statutes (AZRG, AZRG-DV, VV) is desirable
- Demonstrated ability in leadership, social, communication, and methodological competence

- Must currently be a civil servant or tariff employee in the higher service level (BesGr A13h to A15) within a German federal, state, or municipal administration; Must undergo and successfully pass a simple security clearance (SÜ1); Willingness to undertake official business trips within Germany approximately twice per month.
