Job Summary
This critical dual-role position in Darmstadt requires a licensed veterinarian to manage both the medical care and curatorial oversight of the zoo's animal population. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing comprehensive veterinary care, encompassing preventative measures, treatments, and surgical procedures, alongside managing the veterinary pharmacy. Curatorial duties involve supporting the strategic planning of animal enclosures and stock, developing and monitoring feeding, enrichment, and training plans, and organizing animal transports. The role demands meticulous record-keeping using specialized databases like ZIMS Husbandry and ZIMS Medical. Furthermore, the Curator/Veterinarian will engage in scientific collaboration, supervise research projects, assist in developing zoo education programs, and maintain communication with veterinary authorities and international zoological associations (EAZA, VdZ). Experience
