Job Summary
This role is for an experienced Biochemist to lead the Molecular Toxicology working group at the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in Munich. The primary focus is on research related to protection against highly toxic chemical agents, including chemical warfare materials. Day-to-day responsibilities involve planning, establishing, and executing advanced molecular biological and toxicological methods, such as cell culture, in-vitro models, PCR, flow cytometry, and high-resolution microscopy. The successful candidate will actively shape the research strategy, identify therapeutic targets, and test potential antidotes and prophylaxes. Furthermore, the position requires supervising scientific and experimental personnel, managing national and international collaborations (e.g., OPCW, NATO), and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals. Key prerequisites include a Master's degree and a PhD in Biochemistry, proven experience leading an interdisciplinary team, and mandatory German citizenship to fulfill necessary security and civil servant requirements.
Required Skills
Education
Master's or University Diploma in Biochemistry; Doctoral degree (PhD); Relevant certifications in Genetic Engineering Safety, Biological Agents, and Optical Radiation Protection (desired).
Experience
- Demonstrated scientific capability through a doctoral degree (PhD)
- Professional experience conducting in vitro and ex vivo experiments, particularly with highly toxic compounds and human stem cells
- Professional experience as a Working Group Leader, including interdisciplinary team leadership, supervision of academic work, and third-party funding acquisition
- Professional experience in Genetic Engineering project leadership or as a Biological Safety Officer
- Professional experience in establishing and maintaining national and international scientific collaborations (desired)

- German citizenship is mandatory; Successful completion of an extended security clearance (Level Ü 2) is required; Agreement to participate in a health suitability assessment; Commitment to the liberal democratic basic order; Must generally be under 50 years old for potential transition into civil servant status.
