Job Summary

This critical role involves leading the Animal Health sector within the Swiss Army Veterinary Service, contributing directly to the operational readiness of the military's animal support systems. The Head of Animal Health is responsible for ensuring the procurement of army horses and dogs, overseeing regulatory compliance, and establishing the doctrinal bases for the housing, training, health protection, and treatment of these animals. Day-to-day work includes directing technical animal training and leading scientific projects related to animal welfare. The position requires a university diploma in veterinary medicine, preferably supported by a doctorate, and a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, particularly concerning the health maintenance of service dogs and horses. Experience in public veterinary service and a military background are considered significant advantages. This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic development of animal support within the Swiss Armed Forces.

University Diploma in Veterinary Medicine (Doctorate desired)

Experience

  • At least four years of experience relevant to the function
  • Professional experience and knowledge in maintaining and promoting the health of sport and service dogs and horses
  • Pluriennial experience in dog training and public veterinary service (advantageous)
  • Military career, ideally as a veterinary medical officer or staff officer (advantageous)
