Job Summary

The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) is seeking a highly qualified Research Scientist to join the Animal Ecology division in Koblenz. This part-time, fixed-term position focuses on providing scientifically sound advice regarding coastal and estuarine systems, particularly the Elbe tidal river and the North Sea. Day-to-day responsibilities involve leading and managing complex projects concerning the animal ecology of the tidal Elbe, including assessing the impact of maintenance activities like the disposal of dredged material on local fauna (Avifauna, Macrozoobenthos, and Marine Mammals). The role requires designing, planning, and implementing faunal investigations in federal waterways, utilizing advanced multivariate statistical methods to evaluate faunal colonization structures and stressor interactions, and producing detailed scientific reports and methodological concepts. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Biology, Zoology, or Animal Ecology, possess strong statistical and analytical skills, and demonstrate fluency in German and intermediate proficiency in English to effectively communicate complex scientific findings to stakeholders and government bodies.
