Job Summary
This role involves supporting the digital infrastructure of the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), a leading Helmholtz institution. The specialist will be responsible for the installation and operation of servers used for processing and storing scientific data, ensuring over 1,600 staff members worldwide can conduct networked research. Key day-to-day tasks include providing First-Level IT support to scientific and administrative users, managing clients and workstations (installation, updates, and setup), and creating comprehensive IT documentation, tutorials, and video guides. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in IT or a MINT field, possesses experience in First-Level Support and ticket systems, and is proficient in Linux system administration. Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or another MINT field (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, Technology)
Experience
- Professional experience in IT-related field
- Ideally one year of professional experience in First-Level Support
- Experience using a ticket system
- Experience with Client Deployment, Asset Management, and workstation setup
