Job Summary

This position invites a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD candidate or Junior Research Associate to join the III. Medical Clinic and the Hamburg Center for Kidney Health at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to identifying mechanisms and novel treatments for human kidney diseases, specifically focusing on the molecular mechanisms of hypertension and renal disorders, particularly the role of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone and Complement systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include the planning, execution, and evaluation of research experiments, including work with laboratory mice, meticulous documentation, and the preparation of scientific publications. The role also involves supervising medical doctoral candidates and handling organizational tasks. This is a unique opportunity to conduct critical medical research within a supportive environment featuring interactive research labs, bioinformatics experts, and core facilities. Key requirements include a completed scientific university degree in Natural Sciences, strong social competence, independence, and fluent English skills.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Natural Sciences. PhD preferred, especially in Immunology or Molecular Biology.

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating scientific experiments
  • Professional experience in documentation and presentation of research results
  • Experience working with laboratory animals (mice)
  • Experience in supervising junior researchers (medical doctoral candidates)

Additional

  • Proof of full immunization or immunity status against the measles virus is required. This is a part-time position (65% of full-time hours). The contract is fixed-term for three years, subject to external funding.
