Job Summary

This role is for a Master's student focusing on a research project centered on the authenticity analysis of tea and tea products using DNA metabarcoding. The successful candidate will work at the Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Office Rhein-Ruhr-Wupper (CVUA-RRW), an official public health consumer protection laboratory. Day-to-day tasks involve combining modern molecular biology techniques, specifically Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), with robust bioinformatic evaluations. The core focus is developing and validating a DNA metabarcoding method for species determination in tea, building on existing methods for meat and plant-based foods. This position requires structured, motivated individuals with initial experience in molecular biology and data analysis, providing professional supervision and insight into official food monitoring challenges and accredited laboratory operations.
