Job Summary
The Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie (BKG) is seeking a Research Associate in Data Science for a 46-month fixed-term contract in Frankfurt a.M. or Leipzig. This role involves developing AI methods for object detection in Earth observation data, analyzing large LiDAR datasets, and optimizing machine learning pipelines. The successful candidate will integrate new algorithms into existing analysis processes and collaborate with federal administration stakeholders and geoscientists. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical geospatial data solutions for environmental, climate, security, and infrastructure applications, supporting agencies like the Technical Relief Agency and Federal Police. Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or University Diploma in Data Science, Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Climate Sciences, or related fields
Experience
- Proven programming skills in AI/ML
- Experience in processing and analyzing LiDAR or remote sensing data
- Experience in handling large datasets
- Advantageous: Experience in HPC or Cloud environments
- Advantageous: Experience with digital collaboration and team tools (Webex, Wiki, Git, Kanban)
- Advantageous: Experience with geospatial data from various fields (e.g., social geography, traffic, agriculture, forestry)
- Advantageous: Experience with HPC, Cloud platforms, Destination Earth, or scientific computing
