Job Summary
This role is for a Data Engineer to join the LVR Institute for Research and Education in Cologne-Merheim, focusing on the Psy-DIVER project. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the relational clinical patient routine data Oracle database, and building Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipelines to capture and classify socio-demographic and clinical variables from documentation texts using rule-based and Large Language Model (LLM) approaches. Additionally, the role involves potentially setting up a Data Lake for clinical routine documentation, supporting Machine Learning analyses, and contributing to scientific publications. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project aimed at improving diversity-sensitive psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Data Engineering, or a comparable field.
Experience
- Experience with relational databases and non-relational database designs
- Experience in handling sensitive data and ensuring high data security
- Experience in building data platforms/Developer Experience (DevEx)
- Interest in DevOps – development of data pipelines based on Jupyter Notebooks with a focus on high developer experience

- Proof of sufficient protection against measles (unless born before 1971 or demonstrably not subject to the statutory vaccination obligation) is required before signing an employment contract. The position is limited to 24 months, until January 31, 2028.
