Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is seeking a Research Scientist to join its Quantum Technology Competence Center in Braunschweig. This role involves the independent development and enhancement of the "Ion Trap Technology" user platform, serving as a crucial link between external industrial partners and internal PTB staff. The successful candidate will contribute to the QUEST 3 Trapped-Ion Quantum Engineering research group, focusing on the development and optimization of ion trap manufacturing processes, including lithography, coating, laser processing, and etching techniques. The position also entails managing cleanroom facilities, mentoring doctoral students, and actively participating in grant acquisition, knowledge transfer, and standardization efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly qualified individual with a strong background in quantum technologies and microfabrication to contribute to cutting-edge research in a leading national metrology institute.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diplom/Master) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Microtechnology and Fabrication, or related fields with an excellent grade. Doctorate (PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Microtechnology and Fabrication, or related fields.

Experience

  • Professional experience in atomic physics, quantum technologies, microfabrication, and/or related fields
  • Practical experience in microtechnology and microfabrication
  • Experience collaborating with industrial partners
