Job Summary
This role involves ensuring the internal security of North Rhine-Westphalia by working within the operational IT security department of the police force. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, administration, maintenance, and further development of security-relevant system components, with a focus on proxy, firewall, and DNS infrastructure. Key tasks include conceptualizing and planning infrastructure for future requirements, conducting technical problem analysis, and ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems. The position also requires participation in cross-organizational projects, supporting police authorities in NRW on operational IT security, and contributing to the protection against malware. This is a critical role for someone passionate about IT security and seeking a stable, meaningful career within public service.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT-Security, Computer Science, Communications Engineering, or a comparable field; OR vocational training with an advanced technical qualification (e.g., 'staatlich geprüfte/r Techniker/in', 'Operative Professional'); OR vocational training in Computer Science, Communications Engineering, or a comparable field.
Experience
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience (with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT-Security, Computer Science, or Communications Engineering)
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience (with vocational training plus advanced technical qualification like 'staatlich geprüfte/r Techniker/in' or 'Operative Professional')
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience (with vocational training in Computer Science, Communications Engineering, or a comparable field)
- Practical experience with proxy, firewall, and DNS infrastructures
- Practical experience with networks (Routing, Bridge, Subnetting)
- Practical experience with network protocols and services
- Practical experience in network analysis with Wireshark
- Practical experience in error analysis of web- and browser-based applications
- Practical experience with Linux and Windows operating systems (Client/Server)
- Basic practical experience in project management

- Consent to participate in on-call duty; Class B driver's license; Willingness to undergo a security clearance (SÜ 2), requiring residency in Germany or an EU member state for at least five years.
