Job Summary

Join the SEAMPHONI consortium as a PhD Researcher focusing on phytoplankton parasitoid ecology. This role involves pioneering methods to evaluate protist parasites, especially phytoplankton, using eDNA and microscopy. Day-to-day tasks include eDNA monitoring across various latitudes, leading Arctic microscopy fieldwork campaigns in Iceland, establishing host phytoplankton and parasitoid cultures for infection dynamics studies, and applying single-cell genomics to characterize parasite diversity and host specificity. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in marine biology, microbiology, or molecular ecology, possesses hands-on experience with molecular techniques and microscopy, and is fluent in English. This part-time, three-year position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to fundamental and applied understanding of host-parasitoid dynamics within diverse marine environments and shape novel monitoring tools for marine conservation.
