Job Summary

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to cutting-edge research in systemic sustainability at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Diversity in Jena, Germany. The successful candidate will synthesize knowledge on global and regional systemic sustainability, focusing on biodiversity, the impact of agriculture on terrestrial ecosystems, and the effects of environmental boundary exceedance on food security. Key responsibilities include quantifying, modeling, and projecting biodiversity indicators under various climate and land-use change scenarios, as well as assessing UN Sustainable Development Goals and planetary boundaries. This position involves interdisciplinary collaboration within the Leibniz Lab "Systemic Sustainability," publishing scientific papers in international journals, and presenting research findings to both scientific and public audiences. It requires strong analytical skills, expertise in macroecological or biogeographical analyses, and a passion for addressing critical societal challenges at the intersection of biodiversity, climate, agriculture, and nutrition.

Required Skills

Education

Doctorate (PhD) in Biology, Ecology, or related disciplines

Experience

  • Professional experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher (at least one year)
  • Expertise in macroecological or biogeographical analyses with large, multi-species datasets
  • Experience with or knowledge of species distribution modeling based on climate, land use, and other environmental parameters
  • Proven conceptual, quantitative, and statistical expertise, preferably in R
  • Experience with or knowledge of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the concept/modeling of planetary boundaries
  • Relevant scientific publications in biodiversity science and sustainability/conservation
