Job Summary

The Thünen Institute of Fisheries Ecology in Bremerhaven is seeking two dedicated Research Scientists to join the 'ReOyster' project, focused on restoring European Oyster reef systems in the German North Sea. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, setting up, and optimizing a marine hatchery for European Oysters, including microalgae cultivation and larval rearing. Your responsibilities will span from developing and updating production protocols to organizing and coordinating the entire production season. You will also conduct applied research to enhance production efficiency, sustainability, and ecological impact, while actively participating in scientific reporting, presentations, and public relations for the project. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital marine conservation efforts within a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master of Science, PhD, or equivalent) in Aquaculture, Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, or a related field with a strong aquaculture focus.

Experience

  • Professional experience with living aquatic organisms
  • Experience in marine hatchery operations or oyster/microalgae breeding (advantageous)
  • Experience in project management related to aquaculture (advantageous)
  • Experience in supervising students (advantageous)
