Job Summary

This role offers a versatile opportunity in Polymer Chemistry focusing on Research and Development at Roche Diagnostics in Penzberg. The Polymer Chemist will independently plan and execute chemical syntheses of polymers and their precursors, focusing on complex organic-preparative syntheses, isolation, purification, and evaluation of products, especially functionalized polymers. Key responsibilities include utilizing sophisticated chemical and physical methods (e.g., GPC, NMR, UV-Vis) for product assessment, optimizing and scaling established synthesis processes for production transfer, and evaluating new developments. The ideal candidate holds a university degree, preferably a PhD, in Chemistry with a specialization in Polymer or Macromolecular Chemistry, coupled with strong expertise in polymer design, synthesis, and controlled radical polymerization techniques (ATRP, RAFT). Success requires a high degree of self-initiative, strong teamwork skills, and fluency in both German and English to thrive in this dynamic, project-based environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree, preferably PhD, in Chemistry with a focus on Polymer Chemistry or Macromolecular Chemistry; alternatively, Master's degree with initial professional experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in chemical-preparative background
  • Comprehensive expertise in the design and synthesis of homo- and copolymers
  • Demonstrated experience in the production, functionalization, and modification of customized polymer structures
  • Experience in process scale-up and process development (advantageous)
  • Professional experience in an international environment (desirable)
