Job Summary

This position seeks a Doctoral Researcher to join the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, focusing on developing novel non-destructive testing (NDT) sensor technology. The core task involves investigating thermoacoustic emissions, specifically designing and constructing an ultrasonic source for NDT applications in materials science. Day-to-day responsibilities include applying existing physical models, conducting sound field simulations, and characterizing acoustic sources through ultrasonic signal measurements in air. The role requires a completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Physics, or a related field, along with foundational knowledge in sensor technology, acoustics, and programming (preferably Python). The successful candidate must be highly motivated, enjoy independent work, and possess excellent written and spoken English skills, as they will be expected to author multiple scientific publications and present findings at international conferences.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master's/Diplom) in Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Physics, Physical Engineering Science, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Professional experience with acoustic measurement technology or ultrasonic testing (advantageous)
  • Experience supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses (advantageous)
  • Experience in independent scientific work and developing new ideas/solutions
