Job Summary

The Technical University of Munich (TUM), a leading European university, is seeking a motivated Deputy Head of Department for Taxation to join its Finance division in Munich. This crucial role involves the co-leadership of the tax team, managing customs/duties affairs, and providing comprehensive tax advice (including VAT and corporate income tax) to the university and its associated institutions. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing and preparing tax declarations, supporting internal and external tax audits, and contributing to fundamental tax policy issues and special projects. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Law or Business Administration, or an equivalent qualification such as a certified Tax Administrator, coupled with at least two years of practical experience in VAT and corporate income tax, preferably within public or non-profit sectors. Proficiency in German and English, strong analytical skills, and expertise in MS Excel, SAP ECC 6.0, and Elster are essential for success in this challenging and rewarding position.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, preferably in Law or Business Administration, or qualification as a Certified Tax Administrator (Diplom-Finanzwirt)

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of practical experience in VAT and corporate income tax
  • Professional experience preferably related to the taxation of public and non-profit institutions
  • Experience in payroll tax and customs law is ideal
  • Experience in finance and/or higher education sector (for civil servant track)
