Job Summary

The Federal Office for Inland Traffic Engineering (ABVT) in Koblenz is seeking a permanent Information Technology Engineer to manage the operations and technology of critical information services and systems for federal waterways. This role involves the technical management of vital infrastructure, including fiber optic networks (SDH, MPLS) and proprietary radio networks (NIF, AIS, DGNSS), supporting the implementation of the Traffic Engineering 4.0 strategy. Key daily tasks include coordinating planning and execution meetings, managing maintenance, inspection, and change processes, and handling spare parts logistics (hardware and software). The engineer will also be responsible for procurement procedures (UVgO, EVB-IT, VgV), resolving technical faults, and developing documentation and resource plans to meet quality goals. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology/Telecommunications and possess strong German and intermediate English skills, coupled with excellent organizational and analytical abilities.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (FH Diploma/Bachelor) in Computer Science with a specialization in Telecommunications / Information Technology, or comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience as an Engineer (Desirable)
  • Practical experience in maintenance, change, and spare parts management of information services and systems
  • Practical experience in computer network configuration and technology
  • Practical experience in measurement technology and fault resolution in computer and network technology
