Job Summary

This Postdoctoral position focuses on assessing the irradiation resistance of additively manufactured ferritic/martensitic steels, crucial materials for future fusion power plants. The successful candidate will plan, execute, and evaluate ion irradiation experiments using iron (Fe) and helium (He) ions to simulate fusion-typical damage phenomena like hardening, embrittlement, and swelling. Day-to-day tasks involve extensive post-irradiation examinations using advanced techniques such as Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM/STEM) and Nanoindentation, analyzing the interplay between microstructure and radiation damage, and coordinating supplementary materials testing like fracture mechanics and creep tests. The role requires a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, deep knowledge of material characterization, and practical experience or strong interest in ion irradiation effects. This is an attractive opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in a highly relevant field, contribute to global energy challenges, and mentor doctoral candidates within an interdisciplinary, internationally networked research environment.
