Job Summary

This role at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) focuses on pioneering research and development for future low-emission hybrid-electric aviation propulsion systems. The successful candidate will conduct scientific fundamental research centered on energy management and advanced control methods for these complex systems. Day-to-day tasks include performing control engineering analysis, developing innovative control strategies, assisting in the experimental testing of demonstrators, and leading or contributing to project acquisition, execution, and documentation, culminating in scientific publications. Key requirements include a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering or Natural Science discipline and long-term, demonstrable research experience in system dynamics, control engineering, and the simulation of complex dynamic systems. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to solving global climate challenges through sustainable technology development within a highly innovative, international research environment, while also mentoring and developing the research team.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master's or University Diploma) in Natural Sciences (e.g., Mathematics, Physics) or Engineering Sciences (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronics).

Experience

  • Long-term, practical research experience in system dynamics and control engineering (e.g., acquired through a PhD or equivalent research activities)
  • Long-term demonstrable experience in planning and executing national or international research projects, preferably in the field of aviation
  • Extensive experience in the simulation of complex dynamic systems
  • Long-term experience in the implementation of control systems on embedded systems
  • Professional experience required
